ALR Technologies’s GluCurve Pet CGM, a monitoring system for diabetic cats and dogs, is available through Covetrus under a new distribution agreement.
The co-branded GluCurve Pet CGM is the first and only continuous glucose monitoring system specifically designed for cats and dogs and sold directly to veterinaries, according to ALRT, a Singapore-based medical device company.
One in 300 dogs and 1 in 175 cats have diabetes, studies show, and management of the condition often is challenging for pet owners and veterinarians.
“After meeting with many of the largest animal-health companies, Covetrus stood out as the clear choice as our partner to launch the GluCurve Pet CGM,” said Sidney Chan, ALRT’s chairman and CEO.
The device’s sensor electrode chemically reacts with glucose in the hypodermic interstitial fluid to generate an electrical signal. The signal is analyzed to generate a blood glucose value, which is sent to the GluCurve app and uploaded to a veterinary web portal.
The portal offers additional features, such as glucose curve comparisons and overlays, insulin dose calculators, and best practice guidelines.
The GluCurve Pet CGM measures glucose levels every three minutes for a total of 480 daily readings, for up to 14 days, according to ALRT.
Under the terms of the agreement, Covetrus has exclusive rights to sell the GluCurve Pet CGM as a co-branded product to veterinary clinics throughout the United States, Brazil, the United Kingdom, the European Union and other countries.
