SignalPet’s AI Technology Gains Favor in Europe
Speedy radiology readings are coming to IVC Evidensia, the operator of veterinary hospitals across Europe, after it reached an agreement with SignalPet. SignalPet’s artificial intelligence-powered service sends X-rays films “through an AI machine-learning technology to get the results back instantly, much quicker than sending them to a radiology specialist,” the company stated. IVC Evidensia expects to launch the technology in hundreds of U.K. practices this year and elsewhere in 2023.
CBD Study Is Good News for ElleVet
ElleVet Sciences reported that a two-year study of its CBD+CBDA oil found that 40% of enrolled dogs showed reduced seizure severity and frequency. “While CBD has been widely believed to have potential as an option for seizures in dogs, there have been few studies on the topic prior to this study showing efficacy in dogs,” the company stated. The research was conducted at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine under the supervision of clinical assistant professor Gabriel Garcia, DVM. Brakke Finds U.S. Equine Market Is Rebounding
A newly released Brakke Consulting study of more than 1,000 horse owners concluded that the U.S. equine market is on the upswing. “The number of horse owners who are 18 to 34 years old nearly doubled from 2017 to 2022,” said Lynn Fondon, DVM, MBA, a senior consultant and the author of the 225-page Brakke Equine Market MegaStudy. “Additionally, the amount of time per week spent on horse-related activities increased.” The study may be purchased by emailing Dr. Fondon at info@brakkeconsulting.com.
Nutramax Sues Competitors Over Marketing Claims
Pet supplements maker Nutramax Laboratories accused Zesty Paws LLC and its Hong Kong-based owner, H&H Group, of false advertising regarding their products’ ingredients, quality, rankings and market performance. The lawsuit also alleges that the defendants made false or misleading comparisons to Nutramax’s Dasuquin joint health supplements.
NVA Donates $10 Million to Scientific Incubator
National Veterinary Associates, which owns more than 1,500 veterinary hospitals and pet resorts, donated $10 million to Ethos Discovery, a nonprofit incubator dedicated to advancing veterinary medicine. Ethos Discovery was founded by members of Ethos Veterinary Health, an emergency and specialty hospital group acquired in 2021 by NVA. The money will be spent on clinical trials and “pioneering breakthroughs in specialty and emergency medicine,” according to NVA.
Zoetis Foundation Funds Technician Scholarships
Up to 270 veterinary technician students will receive $1,000 scholarships under a program funded by the Zoetis Foundation and managed by the American Veterinary Medical Foundation. Applications will be accepted from Sept. 1 through Oct. 7. Details are at bit.ly/3pKr1cV.
