Today’s Veterinary Business Staff

SAGE Veterinary Centers has expanded down the Pacific Coast with the addition of Advanced Veterinary Specialists, a 10-year-old Santa Barbara, California, practice.
Terms of the deal were not announced. A SAGE spokesperson referred to the transaction only as an “investment partnership.”
Advanced Veterinary Specialists was founded by Andrea Wells, DVM, DACVIM, who practiced in San Diego before moving to Santa Barbara.
“Dr. Wells and her team have created an impressive multispecialty practice,” said Gina Del Vecchio, SAGE’s CEO.
“This partnership is exciting as it not only expands our portfolio to a new region but provides AVS with resources to meet the growing demand for pet care,” Del Vecchio said.
Besides Northern California, where SAGE Veterinary Centers got its start, the company provides business and clinical support services to hospitals in Alaska, Texas and Washington state.
Advanced Veterinary Specialists is a Level II veterinary emergency and critical care facility, only the second in California, according to SAGE. The team of 12 veterinarians includes board-certified specialists in oncology, surgery and internal medicine.
