Oh, baby! Innovetive Petcare, a network of 21 veterinary hospitals across six Southern states, will help employees save for a child’s college expenses by providing an initial contribution.

The new fringe benefit will be presented as a gift card that can be deposited into a state’s 529 tax-advantaged college savings plan. Starting March 1, a mother or father will receive the seed money — the amount was not disclosed — when they welcome a new child.

“Innovetive Petcare believes that the quality of veterinary medicine is defined by the well-being of their employees,” said Mark Ziller, president and CEO of Innovetive Petcare. “Our partnership with demonstrates that investment by enabling access to higher education and minimizing the debt potentially faced for decades to come.”

Among the Texas-based company’s other employee benefits are paid time off, medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan, and paid continuing education.

“For employees who are not parents,” the company reported, “Innovetive Petcare encourages them to share awareness of 529 college savings plans with family and friends and consider using and its social sharing feature for birthday and holiday giving.
