Boehringer Ingelheim has launched a new “Quarterable Snap-Tab” design for its Previcox (firocoxib) Chewable Tablets following approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The COX-2 selective non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) is approved for the control of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in dogs and for the control of postoperative pain and inflammation associated with soft-tissue and orthopedic surgery in dogs.
According to the company, the updated design offers several clinical and operational updates, including flexible dosing and extended storage. The double-scored 57-milligram and 227-milligram tablets can be divided into quarters, allowing veterinarians to prescribe precise, customizable dosages for dogs weighing as little as 7 pounds. Once divided, the quartered tablets can be stored in their original packaging for up to one month, helping to reduce medication waste. The updated packaging includes an industry-standard round bottle, and the company has eliminated internal cotton to reduce material use.
While the physical design has changed, the core formulation and dose strengths remain the same. The tablets will roll out progressively throughout 2026 and 2027, beginning with the 60-count bottles.
