Zoetis Inc. has acquired a second veterinary clinical reference laboratory less than a month after entering the space.
The purchase of ZNLabs shifts Zoetis’ diagnostic laboratory focus from the Pacific Northwest to markets east of the Mississippi. Terms of the acquisition were not released.
In late October, Zoetis bought Seattle-based Phoenix Central Laboratory, which serves veterinary clients in 20 states. The takeover of ZNLabs gives Zoetis a company with a main laboratory in Louisville, Kentucky, and satellite facilities in Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, New Orleans, Salt Lake City and Boise, Idaho.
Two co-founders of ZNLabs are veterinarians: David Gardiner, DVM, MS, DACVP, and Andrew Loar, DVM, DACVIM.
“We built ZNLabs with the dream of providing a national reference lab that truly partners with clients and makes testing more accessible for pet owners with our simple, fair pricing model,” Dr. Gardiner said. “Now with Zoetis, we will be able to rapidly continue to build our innovative reference lab model and provide an expanded diagnostic testing solution to more clients than we ever could have done by ourselves.”
Zoetis’ entry into the reference laboratory channel “expands our diagnostics footprint and enhances our value proposition to veterinary customers,” said Kristin Peck, executive vice president and group president of U.S. Operations, Business Development and Strategy.
“Together with ZNLabs and the recently added team from Phoenix Lab … we will focus on integrated solutions across the continuum of animal care,” Peck said. “We plan to grow further in this space through a mixture of small, business development activities combined with organic expansions in key markets in the coming years.”
