Midmark Partners With SignalPET
Midmark Corp. announced a partnership with SignalPET, whose SignalSMILE software uses artificial intelligence and machine-learning technology to help veterinarians detect common pathologies on companion animal dental X-rays. “Clients using our Midmark imaging software will be able to leverage SignalPET’s radiograph interpretation technology to better assess their dental radiography results,” said Andrew Schultz Jr., Midmark’s director of business development and clinical services. “This will be especially helpful for veterinary practices seeking to expand their dental services and be more confident in diagnosing and treating their patients.”
Mars-Led Team Focuses on Hospital-Client Relationships
Mars Veterinary Health announced the formation of an industry-wide working group aimed at strengthening the relationship between veterinary teams and pet owners through resources, education and collaboration. The working group’s core members are Mars Veterinary Health and its Banfield, BluePearl and VCA practices, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges, the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America, Not One More Vet, the Veterinary Hope Foundation and Veterinary Medical Association Executives. In other news, Banfield will help expand access across the profession to the AVMA’s Online Reputation Management Toolkit, which will become available for free in 2023.
Zoetis Completes Purchase of Jurox
Zoetis Inc. completed its acquisition of Jurox, an Australian-based company that manufactures and markets a range of veterinary medicines for livestock and companion animals. Terms were not disclosed. According to Zoetis, the transaction increases Zoetis’ range of products and “provides future growth opportunities, manufacturing capacity and insights into [the] Australian animal health market.” Among Jurox’s products is the anesthetic drug Alfaxan.
Burnout Study Requests Your Input
Galaxy Vets is inviting veterinary professionals to participate in its third annual burnout study. According to the company, “the study aims to track the burnout rate among veterinary professionals and find insights on the major factors driving professional fulfillment or contributing to work exhaustion and interpersonal disengagement.” A 10-minute questionnaire may be completed at bit.ly/3UXQgHe. The 2021 study revealed a 9.4% increase in the burnout rate in all groups compared to the previous year.
LSU Faculty Members Get Endowed Professorships
The Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine filled two endowed professorships. The Everett D. Besch Professorship in Veterinary Medicine, established in 2002, was awarded to Tammy Dugas, Ph.D., the associate dean for research and graduate education and a professor in the department of comparative biomedical sciences. The Hannelore and Johannes Storz Professorship in Pathobiological Sciences, established in 2015, was granted to Professor Konstantin “Gus” Kousoulas, Ph.D., whose research team is working on vaccines to combat herpes infections, COVID-19, and other viral and parasitic infections.
