Pet food maker Royal Canin has released veterinary-exclusive Pill Assist, a treat designed to conceal medications from fussy dogs.
A study commissioned by the St. Charles, Missouri, company found that 1 in 3 dog owners reported their pets spit out pills.
“A dog’s medication cannot help if it is not taken,” said scientific affairs manager Catherine Lenox, DVM, DACVN. “Royal Canin developed Pill Assist to ease the burden on pet owners and enable dogs to better consume the medication they need.”
Another study determined that Pill Assist worked as designed in 97 percent of cases.
Like some pill disguisers on the market, the soft Pill Assist can be squeezed around the medication and offered as a tasty treat. Formulated with vitamins and prebiotics, the product comes in two sizes.
