The British company ioLight has received a U.S. patent for its foldable microscope.
The high-resolution portable microscope is available from distributors New York Microscope Co. of Hicksville, New York, and Forestry Suppliers of Jackson, Mississippi.
“The U.S. patent further enables our U.S. commercial strategy and will allow us to concentrate on bringing this innovative technology to a number of industries,” said ioLight co-founder Andrew Monk. “For example, it is perfect for in-the-field use, whether it’s a vet at a pen side or a botanist researching in a remote location.”
Captured images can be displayed on laptops, tablets and smartphones.
The microscope has 1-micron resolution as well as a rechargeable battery for the illumination of samples, the manufacturer stated.
The device folds flat to 6.3 by 4.0 by 1.3 inches — small enough to fit in a jacket pocket or desk drawer, ioLight added.
