PetVet Care Centers has signed a seven-year agreement to use Heska laboratory diagnostic equipment at its more than 100 veterinary hospitals nationwide.

The equipment to be provided by Loveland, Colorado-based Heska includes the Element DC chemistry, Element HT5 hematology, Element POC blood gas and electrolyte, and Element i immunodiagnostics analyzers along with the new Element COAG.

The value of the deal was not announced.

“This is a key account … for Heska’s new corporate and strategic accounts initiative and represents significant competitive market-share shift to Heska,” said the company’s executive vice president, Steve Eyl.

The tabletop Element COAG analyzer, which performs coagulation, fibrinogen and blood typing tests, is manufactured by Zoetis Inc. and distributed exclusively by Heska across North America.

PetVet Care Centers, headquartered in Westport, Connecticut, purchases independent hospitals and strives to keep the management and practice culture in place. The company’s highest-ranking veterinarian is chief medical officer Larry Berkwitt, DVM, DACVIM.
