Today’s Veterinary Business Staff

A veterinary industry consultant and former Petco executive has been named consulting veterinarian for the Petland retail chain.
Thomas Edling, DVM, MSpVM, MPH, will help Petland, which sells puppies and kittens in addition to pet supplies, “evolve our industry-leading animal health protocols,” company President and CEO Joe Watson said.
“Petland cares about the health of our pets before they arrive at our stores, while they are in our care and after they go home,” Watson said.
Dr. Edling, who earned his master in specialized veterinary medicine (MSpVM) in 2001 from North Carolina State University, said he wants to build upon “Petland’s 51 years of raising standards of care.”
“I look forward to continuing my life’s passion of improving the health and welfare of animals in the pet industry,” he said.
Dr. Edling served as vice president of veterinary medicine at Petco for 15 years until he started a consulting firm in February 2018.
More than 100 Petland franchise stores operate in the United States, Canada, Brazil, China, El Salvador, Japan, Mexico and South Africa.
Petland is headquartered in Chillicothe, Ohio.
