Nutramax Laboratories Veterinary Sciences Inc. has tweaked one supplement’s formula and launched another supplement containing L-carnitine.
Cobalequin, made for dogs and cats, now contains the biologically active form of folate, or vitamin B12, the Lancaster, South Carolina manufacturer reported.
“Many cobalamin-deficient patients also lack total serum folate, and when being supplemented with cobalamin, their folate stores get even further depleted, leading to folate deficiency,” said Jörg M. Steiner, DVM, Ph.D., DACVIM, a veterinary gastroenterologist at Texas A&M University.
Nutramax also announced the introduction of Quinicarn, an L-carnitine supplement for cats and dogs.
“L-carnitine supplementation has been shown to support recovery time after strenuous activity as well as help maintain lean muscle mass, and may also support heart and liver health,” said Eric Shreves, DVM, a technical services veterinarian with Nutramax.
Quinicarn is chicken flavored and comes in single-serving powder packets.
