The American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) and Chewy Health have opened nominations for the 2027 Chewy Veterinary Leaders Program. The program was established to recognize and support second-year veterinary students from backgrounds with limited access to veterinary careers.
The 15 students selected for the 2027 program will receive a $20,000 scholarship for the fall 2027 semester, bimonthly peer support group conversations facilitated by MentorVet, and in-person leadership training at Chewy’s Florida headquarters. After graduation, participants will receive a scholarship to MentorVet LEAP’s six-month mentorship and professional development program and join the Chewy Veterinary Leaders alumni network.
“The future of veterinary medicine depends heavily on the quality of leaders that are developed today,” said Dr. Emma K. Read, chief executive officer of AAVMC. “We encourage students who are eager to take the next step to apply for this important program.”
Any institutional member of the AAVMC can nominate one eligible student from their school by November 4. Nominees should demonstrate an interest in growing their leadership skills and a commitment to serving and mentoring others in the veterinary profession.
Nomination details are available at apply.aavmc.org.
