Veterinary drug maker Zoetis Inc. has stepped up its involvement in “The Pet Effect” campaign by releasing two videos designed to raise awareness about how pet ownership can benefit human health.
The first one-minute video, “Comrade,” depicts the “pains veterans go through during post-traumatic stress disorder episodes and how service dogs can help them defeat the difficult symptoms that arise from the condition,” Zoetis reported.
The second, “Adopt a Human,” demonstrates how adopting a shelter pet can save the animal and its new owner.
“The Pet Effect campaign has assembled significant scientific evidence that demonstrates how pets improve heart health, alleviate depression, increase well-being, support child health and development, and contribute to healthy aging,” Zoetis stated. “Pets can also assist in the treatment of a broad range of conditions from autism spectrum disorder to Alzheimer’s disease to post-traumatic stress.”
Veterinary professionals are part of the equation, too.
“By keeping pets healthy, veterinarians, veterinary technicians and other pet health professionals play an integral role in human health,” the Parsippany, New Jersey, company stated.
The campaign was launched in cooperation with the non-profit Human Animal Bond Research Institute.
