Today’s Veterinary Business Staff

Registration has opened for the 16th Triennial Heartworm Symposium, a meeting that aims to teach veterinary professionals just about everything they should know about heartworm disease.
The event, sponsored by the American Heartworm Society, will take place Sept. 8 to 11, 2019, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in New Orleans.
“Every three years, this symposium brings together some of the best minds in the world when it comes to understanding heartworm disease,” said Christopher Rehm, DVM, president of the American Heartworm Society and an Alabama practice owner. “Our agenda is packed with topics of significance to practitioners who see heartworm disease in their day-to-day practice.”
Hundreds of attendees are expected from academia, veterinary practice, veterinary schools and industry.
Among the topics to be covered are:
- Heartworm epidemiology and prevalence.
- Diagnostic techniques.
- Recent research on heartworm treatment protocols.
- Heartworm pathology.
“This is always a popular meeting with practitioners and academics alike, due to its mix of research and clinical topics,” said symposium co-chairwoman Marisa Ames, DVM, DACVIM (Cardiology).
