Zoetis Inc.’s growing line of point-of-care diagnostics products now includes Witness FFH, a three-in-one test for feline leukemia virus (FeLV), feline heartworm and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV).
The introduction of Witness FFH, announced Oct. 3, follows the April 2017 launch of Witness Lepto, a test for leptospirosis in dogs.
Combining a heartworm test with FeLV and FIV tests is logical, said Matthew Krecic, DVM, MS, MBA, DACVIM, a senior technical services manager with Zoetis.
“A shared clinical sign of all three diseases is vomiting, so a triple test helps veterinarians make
accurate diagnoses more quickly,” Dr. Krecic said. “Sick cats may also have FeLV or FIV; therefore, testing for those concurrent with heartworm is sensible.”
Witness FFH is designed to detect antigens to feline leukemia virus and feline heartworm and identify antibodies to feline immunodeficiency virus.
Zoetis reported that Witness FFH does not need refrigeration and “requires less preparation time than other tests already available in the market.”
The company is headquartered in Parsippany, New Jersey.
