Elanco Animal Health has launched a feline version of Credelio, a chewable tablet formulated to kill fleas and protect against ticks.
Credelio Cat (lotilaner) arrives four years after the release of the beef-flavored Credelio (lotilaner) tablet for dogs. The feline variety has a vanilla and yeast scent that Elanco stated appeals to cats fussy about oral medications.
“It’s great to have a first-of-its-kind flea and tick option for cat owners who prefer oral administration or want to try something besides a topical,” said Tony Rumschlag, DVM, senior director of technical consulting at Elanco. “Credelio Cat … has been shown to be safe and effective when used according to label directions for killing fleas in cats as young as 8 weeks weighing 2 or more pounds, so veterinarians can feel good about prescribing it to their patients.”
The product kill fleas within six hours and is indicated for the treatment and control of black-legged tick (deer tick) infestations in cats and kittens at least 6 months old and weighing at least 2 pounds, according to Elanco.
Credelio Cat should be administered monthly with food, the company reported.
