Dechra has announced the availability of Laverdia (verdinexor) tablets, the first and only oral treatment for canine lymphoma approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The prescription medication is designed for at-home administration and demonstrates efficacy against B-cell and T-cell lymphoma. The targeted therapy works by slowing disease progression while generally sparing healthy cells, providing a primary care alternative for a disease where an estimated 80% of diagnosed dogs do not receive traditional intravenous chemotherapy.
The company noted that the oral format provides flexibility for general practitioners and oncologists, allowing them to initiate treatment immediately after diagnosis while owners consider further options, wait to begin multi-agent chemotherapy protocols, or opt for a less aggressive approach.
