Zoetis Inc. has launched a chewable formulation of its longstanding Clavamox antibiotic for dogs and cats.
Clavamox Chewable (amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium tablets) is a pork-liver-flavored prescription medication that was tested for palatability with 112 client-owned dogs at VCA veterinary hospitals. Zoetis, a Parsippany, New Jersey, drug maker, reported a voluntary acceptance rate of 83 percent over 1,567 doses.
The new formulation has the same efficacy and dosing regimen as original film-coated Clavamox Tablets, Zoetis announced Aug. 14. The drug also comes in an orally administered liquid version known as Clavamox Drops.
The chewables are sold in boxes of 100 tablets in strengths of 62.5, 125, 250 or 375 milligrams.
Clavamox is indicated for the treatment of skin infections in dogs and cats, periodontal infections in dogs and urinary tract infections in cats.
