Today’s Veterinary Business Staff

What British veterinarians do for a living will come into sharper focus when practitioners submit their entries in the 2018 BVA Veterinary Photographer of the Year competition.
The contest, now in its third year, is accepting submissions through Aug. 19 in two categories:
- The Human-Animal Bond
- All Creatures Great and Small
“The photo competition has created quite a buzz within the veterinary community since it launched two years ago,” said John Fishwick, MA, VetMB, DECBHM, president of the British Veterinary Association.
“Whether you enjoy taking photos on your phone or have all the latest photography equipment, I would encourage all my colleagues within the veterinary family to give it a go and get clicking.”
The 2017 contest attracted more than 600 entries from hundreds of veterinarians and veterinary nurses. Examples of stunning photographic work done by veterinary professionals included cattle during a tuberculosis testing day, a meerkat undergoing a vasectomy and a veterinary podiatrist on the job.
The current competition, open to all BVA members, “seeks images that highlight the human-animal bond within a veterinary practice as well as photos of pets or wildlife taken outside of the working environment,” the organization reported.
A judging panel will select the top winners. BVA members will choose a Members’ Choice Award winner during voting taking place Aug. 27 to Sept. 10.
