Humanimal Trust has published its 2025-26 Impact Report, detailing progress in bridging human and veterinary medicine with a focus on pharmaceutical policy, comparative health research, and professional networking.
The charity met with U.K. policymakers to advocate for the dual licensing of human and veterinary medicines. The Trust noted that dual licensing could reduce duplicate research and development efforts, accelerate drug innovation, and lower pharmaceutical development costs across both human and animal health sectors.
On the research front, the release highlighted the launch of the organization’s £200,000 Cancer Discovery Fund. Led by researchers at the University of Edinburgh and NHS Lothian, the project studies oronasal mucosal melanoma — an aggressive cancer occurring naturally in dogs and humans — to advance shared diagnostics and treatment modalities.
Additionally, the report outlined the growth of the charity’s professional network and webinar series aimed at fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration between veterinary and human medical professionals.
Dr. Mary Fraser, chair of trustees at Humanimal Trust, stated in the release that bringing the two fields together aims to “unlock new opportunities for medical progress … through our research, education, and collaboration programmes.”
