Veterinary Emergency & Referral Group is celebrating the relocation of its north Brooklyn hospital, a two-floor facility with separate outpatient and inpatient treatment areas and a rooftop exercise area.
“Moving to our new home has been a massive undertaking,” said VERG founder and medical director Brett Levitzke, DVM.
“This new space allows our doctors, specialists and team members to treat more pets and provide additional top-quality care options to our patients,” he said.
The opening, announced Nov. 8, brings to Brooklyn’s Gowanus neighborhood a 24-hour hospital featuring separate dog and cat lodging areas, a continuing education conference room, and more exam rooms and surgical suites than were available at the former location a mile away. The new hospital also offers a dedicated intensive care unit, an isolation area with independent airflow.
Between the Gowanus location and VERG South, on Flatbush Avenue, the practice employs nearly 40 veterinarians. Among 13 board-certified specialists are cardiologist Justin Carlson, VMD, DACVIM, and dermatologist Rada Panich, DVM, DACVD.

Major remodeling turned the building at bottom, as seen in Google Street View, into VERG North, top.
