ElleVet and Fear Free Join Forces
ElleVet Sciences, a maker of CBD products for companion animals, will collaborate with the Fear Free organization on educational content for veterinary and pet professionals and pet owners. The partnership will strive to “show how ElleVet and Fear Free are effective in reducing fear, anxiety and stress in pets,” said Fear Free founder Marty Becker, DVM. Fear Free has provided online and in-person education to more than 248,000 veterinary and pet professionals since 2016.
Trupanion Enters Japanese Insurance Market
Aflac Life Insurance Japan will offer Aflac Pet Insurance in the Asian nation through a partnership with U.S.-based Trupanion Inc. “This joint venture will combine Aflac’s brand recognition, broad distribution network and industry leadership in Japan with Trupanion’s brand, strong reputation and expertise within the pet insurance industry,” said Frederick J. Crawford, president and chief operating officer of Aflac Inc. According to the companies, sales could begin in the second half of 2023.
Veterinary Products App Gets an Update
DVMetrics updated the Compendium of Veterinary Products app for iPhones to provide improved navigation and functionality. The CVP app contains more than 6,000 pharmaceutical, biological, parasiticide and supplement product monographs.
VetORSolutions Wins Pitch Competition
VetORSolutions took first place in the Veterinary Innovation Summit’s 2022 Pitch Competition. A panel of judges recognized VetORSolutions’ entire product line, which includes the HUG-U-VAC patient positioning system, ConRad thermal blankets for general use and MRI, and the HoverHeat patient warming system. The Oregon startup’s founder and CEO is anesthesiologist Lloyd Hiebert, MD.
New Podcast Series From Bond Vet
Bond Vet, a New York-based network of 19 veterinary hospitals, launched BondAir, a weekly podcast featuring veterinarians and other clinic professionals discussing topics ranging from mental health to surgery. The podcasts, hosted by licensed veterinary technician Jesse Longo, are on Spotify at bit.ly/3Exp7F1, on Twitch at bit.ly/3TA2TWX and on YouTube at bit.ly/3hJMimA.
Windi Wojdak Is a Clinic Champion
Today’s Veterinary Nurse and Midmark chose Windi Wojdak, RVT, as the inaugural Clinic Champion of the Year. Wojdak, the senior director of Rural Area Veterinary Services, was lauded for “her tireless work in animal welfare, expanding access to care in underserved communities, and advancement of the veterinary nursing profession.” California-based Rural Area Veterinary Services operates under the Humane Society of the United States.
PrideVMC Leadership Award Goes to 2 DVMs
PrideVMC honored two winners of its annual Leadership Award: Dane Whitaker, DVM, MPVM, and Ewan Wolff, Ph.D., DVM, DACVIM. “This award recognizes individuals who actively support PrideVMC’s mission to create a better world for the LGBTQ+ veterinary community and vision of an empowered LGBTQ+ veterinary community that is embraced by society as their authentic selves,” the organization reported.

California Veterinarians Earn Director Seats
Janis Shinkawa, DVM, the co-founder of Ohana Pet Hospital in Venture, California, joined the National Association of Women Business Owners board of directors. In addition, her colleague and hospital co-founder Jill Muraoka Lim, DVM, was named to the Ventura College Foundation board of directors. The two veterinarians were instrumental in the launch of a veterinary technology associate degree program at Ventura College.

Advanced Veterinary Ultrasound will market, sell and service portable ultrasound systems manufactured by Poland-based Draminski S.A., whose product line includes the Draminski Blue, iScan2 and iScan Mini systems. Advanced Veterinary Ultrasound is headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
ASV Starts a Shelter Medicine Journal
The Association of Shelter Veterinarians launched the Journal of Shelter Medicine and Community Animal Health. “The publication is the first academic journal devoted to shelter and community medicine and will provide evidence-based research impacting the welfare of animals in shelters and communities for veterinarians around the world,” ASV reported. 750 Gather for Nutramax-Sponsored Conference
The Christian Veterinary Mission Veterinary Conference drew more than 750 people to Nashville, Tennessee. The second annual conference was sponsored by Nutramax Laboratories Veterinary Sciences Inc. “Attendees enjoyed one-of-a-kind fellowship with other veterinary professionals, worship with superior entertainment and stretched their knowledge with educational sessions designed just for them,” Nutramax stated.
